Yosemite Sam and Elmer Fudd have lost some of their defining traits in the "Looney Tunes Cartoons" which has launched on HBO Max—a new American streaming service.
The character’s outfits will remain unchanged but neither characters are now sporting guns, according to CTV News.
The characters are still allowed to use cartoon violence and blow up sticks of Acme dynamite, though Sam will no longer carry pistols and Fudd will lose his hunting rifle.
"We're not doing guns," said executive producer Peter Browngardt when speaking with The New York Times.
"But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of grandfathered in."
A short called "Dynamite Dance," includes Bugs Bunny using dynamite to blow up Fudd who is chasing him with a scythe instead of a gun.
It was not clarified as to whether the guns were taken away in a response to school shootings and gun violence in the United States.
In the UK, knife violence has been on a steep increase in recent years. The 12 months preceding June 2019 had 44,076 knife offences reported, with over 600 homicides.
Gun violence in the US resulted in nearly 11,000 deaths in 2017, and about 30 percent of Americans adults say that they own a gun.
