Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy announced on Twitter Friday that businessman Elon Musk has donated to the Barstool Fund.
"Glad to have @elonmusk and the Musk Foundation's support. This will help us continue to support more small businesses," Portnoy tweeted.
The Barstool Fund was started by Portnoy in December 2020 to help keep small businesses nationwide afloat during the coronavirus shutdowns. He has raised over $21 million to help struggling small business survive during this harsh economic time. The fund has helped some 98 businesses thus far, according to Barstool's website.
Musk has previously supported Portnoy's platform, endorsing his calls to reopen the nation's economy and end coronavirus shutdowns in May 2020.
"Well said! Please run for office. The politicians & unelected bureaucrats who stole our liberty should be tarred, feathered & thrown out of town!" Musk tweeted to Portnoy.
Portnoy called on Musk in late December to donate to his fund for small businesses.
"Hey @elonmusk you asked me to run for President cause of the bureaucracy in Wash. Could use a donation (preferably huge one) to help save small business in America. #barstoolfund No red tape. No delay. Getting small businesses the support they need," Portnoy tweeted.
