During a rally in Anchorage, Alaska on Saturday, former president Donald Trump called Elon Musk a "bullsh*t artist," claiming that he had told him that he'd voted Republican in the last election.
Musk hit back, denying that he had ever voted for Trump, and added that he thought Florida Republican governor Ron DeSantis would easily defeat Biden were he to run.
Trump began his tirade against Musk by urging his followers to sign up for Truth Social, and claiming he predicted the failed Twitter deal.
"Elon is not gonna buy Twitter," Trump said. "Where did you hear that before? From me."
"He's got himself a mess," Trump continued. "He said the other day, 'I've never voted for a Republican,' so I said 'I didn't know that.' He told me he voted for me! So he's another bullsh*t artist, but he's not gonna be buying it."
In response to allegations that he had voted for Trump, Musk said, simply, "Not true."
"I don't hate the man," Musk said in another tweet, "but it's time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset."
When pressed on his statement, Musk doubled down.
"Trump would be 82 at end of term," he wrote, "which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America."
Musk then stated that he thought DeSantis would "easily win" against Biden in 2024, suggesting that "he doesn't even need to campaign."
DeSantis has gained popularity among Republicans as of late due to his no-nonsense stance on issues such as critical race theory, gender, and the Covid-19 pandemic.
A poll taken at a GOP convention in Wisconsin in May showed DeSantis beating Trump as the preferred presidential candidate.
