Recent Twitter owner Elon Musk says that he "vehemently" opposed the banning of then-President Donald Trump on Twitter, saying that the tech platform was wrong for doing so.
According to a report, Musk's top assistant Jared Birchall, said that he told an associate that he believed banning Trump was an "insane" move.
Musk reportedly "remains dismayed" that Trump is not allowed to tweet, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Twitter said in a statement on January 8, 2021 that the then-President's account had been suspended "after close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them — specifically how they are being received and interpreted on and off Twitter — we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," they wrote at the time.
Musk has not given any public statements on whether or not he would reinstate the former President, though Trump himself has made it clear that he would not be returning to the platform.
Trump has instead opted for his own project, and has begun posting on Truth Social.
"I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on TRUTH," Trump said. "I hope Elon buys Twitter because he'll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on TRUTH."
Trump told Fox News in an exclusive statement that he will begin "TRUTHing" over the next week.
"We're taking in millions of people, and what we’re finding is that the response on TRUTH is much better than being on Twitter," Trump said. "Twitter has bots and fake accounts, and we are doing everything we can."
"The bottom line is, no, I am not going back to Twitter," he said.
He has since posted on to Truth, truthing "I'M BACK" along with the hashtag #COVFEFE.
Trump’s 2017 "covfefe" post garnered more than 100,000 likes and retweets each before it was deleted, turning into a meme that spread across the internet.
