Employee of BC Ferries dies after falling into the Fraser River

An employee of BC Ferries died on Friday while working in the fleet maintenance unit, according to Global News.

An employee of BC Ferries died on Friday while working in the fleet maintenance unit, according to Global News.

On Saturday, the body of the employee was recovered by police and search and rescue.

Deb Marshall, a spokesperson for BC Ferries confirmed in an email that the worker fell into the Fraser River while working in Richmond in the fleet maintenance unit.

“This is extremely distressing news for all of us and our hearts go out to his family and friends, to our employees who work at the fleet maintenance unit alongside this person, and to our entire BC Ferries family,” wrote Marshall, noting that BC Ferries has since contacted the employee's immediate family.

No further details have been released yet however WorkSafeBC is currently investigating the incident.
