Eric Adams honors USS Intrepid for being attacked at Pearl Harbor—it wasn't even built yet

New York City Democrat Mayor Eric Adams honored Memorial Day by paying respect to a US aircraft carrier for being attacked at Pearl Harbor. However, on the day of the attack, the ship wasn't even built yet.

"The U.S.S. Intrepid is an amazing symbol of resilience. Under attack at Pearl Harbor, it endured. It stands for the sacrifice of our armed forces and our nation’s power to recover from tragedy. We still need that spirit today, and I honor the sacrifices that made it possible."

However, the ship wasn't at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, because it had not even been built yet.

Construction on the Intrepid began on December 1, 1941, six days before the attack at Pearl Harbor and on the other side of the country in Newport News, Virginia. History buffs have often noted how lucky it was that there were no US carriers at Pearl Harbor the day of the attack. Both the Enterprise and Lexington were away on missions to island outposts the day the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor.

But as for the Intrepid, it wasn’t launched until April 26, 1943. The Intrepid was decommissioned in 1974 and is currently a museum moored in the Hudson River, off the coast of Manhattan.

Twitter users were quick to point out the error. One person noted the irony given that Democrats want Adams to be the party’s new communications expert. Adams was mocked mercilessly and eventually deleted the tweet.

Democrat President Joe Biden said in his Memorial Day speech that Democracy has "never been good," before correcting himself that he meant to say "Democracy has never been perfect."
