Eric Andre accuses officials of racism after Atlanta Airport questioning

Andre called it “JIM CROW RACISM.” Airport officials announced they’d be meeting with the Clayton County officers next week to “review procedures.”

Post-Chauvin verdict racial tensions are still high in America. The most prominent example being Lebron James targeting a Columbus police officer for a high-profile story involving a stabbing attempt.

But other situations involving celebrities appear to be happening.

Andre’s situation started yesterday afternoon. He tagged the Atlanta Police Twitter account and said he was “racially profiled” by two officers in the Delta terminal at Atlanta airport.

Andre said the pair stopped him on the bridge to the plane for a “random” drug search. He then asked Atlanta Mayor Keisha Bottoms for help in identifying the officers, telling her he was the person of color in line.

Mayor Bottoms responded that it wasnt the Atlanta Police Department but another agency at the airport (Andre suggested if not the APD, then it might’ve been DEA). At one point Andre mentioned to the Mayor that he filmed Bad Trip The Movie in Atlanta, alluding to the recent Georgia boycott efforts by the movie industry over passage of a voting law.

Eventually Andre figured out it was the Clayton County Police Department. In a public statement they said the encounter was “consensual,” and that Andre consented to his luggage being searched, but that the officers chose not to do so.

In response the actor denied any notion that he consented to a luggage search.

“Our preliminary findings have revealed that Mr. Andre was not racially profiled,” Clayton County Police told media outlets. “Our inquiries have revealed that Mr. Andre was cordial, personable and pleasant to speak with.”

Then Eric Andre doubled down on his objections.

By the end of this episode the Atlanta Airport got involved, saying it was the Clayton County Drug Task force specifically. They follow up by announcing “officials from ATL and APD are scheduled to meet with Clayton County law enforcement officers next week to review procedures.”
