The newly-named Conservative Party Leader Erin O'Toole and his family will be tested for COVID-19 after a member of his staff who had traveled with him tested positive.
“While he hasn’t shown symptoms, Mr. O’Toole and his family are being tested out of an abundance of caution. Other staff who were travelling with Mr. O’Toole are also being tested and will be self-isolating,” a statement from the Conservative Party said.
“My family and I are feeling well, but we take COVID-19 very seriously. Today was going to be Jack’s first day back at school, but instead we will be getting tested and self-isolating per public health guidelines. The health and safety of my family and all Canadians is my top priority,” a statement from O'Toole reads.
Other leaders who have self isolated include Bloc Quebecois leader Yves-Francois Blanchet following news that his wife had tested positive. Prime Minister Trudeau also self isolated after his wife had tested positive following WE Day event in London, UK.
Quebec Premier Francois Legault, who met with O'Toole earlier this week, tweeted that he has been in contact with public health, who did not recommend that Legault self isolate.
"Mr. O'Toole has no symptoms. It is therefore a contact of a contact, a low risk exposure according to Public Health," tweeted Legault. "Public Health does not recommend isolation or screening, only monitoring for symptoms. We will continue to follow these recommendations."
