Establishment media shields Antifa in coverage of Antifa shooter's death

Left-wing news outlets refused to shine a light on Antifa's dark influence when covering the death of admitted Antifa shooter Michael Forest Reinoehl.

The New York Times edited out Reinoehl's ties to the domestic terror group in its spotlight summary.

As one of the first news outlets to break the killing of Reinoehl by a federal fugitive task force last night, the NYT made several changes to its original article, which initially read: "Michael Forest Reinoehl, an Antifa supporter, died when law enforcement went to arrest him. He was being investigated in the fatal shooting of a member of the far-right group Patriot Prayer."

Reinoehl had reportedly left an apartment complex appearing to be armed, entered his vehicle, and then exited firearm in hand.

Bystanders witnessed the suspect point a gun at two unmarked SUVs, noting 40 or 50 shots heard, then officers returned fire.

After four officials confirmed the shootout between the suspect and officers during the arrest, the left-wing newspaper deleted "Antifa supporter" from the article's summary, still emphasizing that Reinoehl's murdered victim Aaron "Jay" Danielson was an associate of the Portland-area conservative group.

NYT buried the fact that Reinoehl had declared his allegiance to Antifa in a viral Instagram post, mentioning his support for the leftist militants later in the piece.

"I am 100% ANTIFA all the way! I am willing to fight for my brothers and sisters! Even if some of them are too ignorant to realize what antifa truly stands for," Reinoehl wrote in June.

The Daily Beast described his declaration as on "the far edges of the anti-racist movement."

To date, the NYT abstract reads: "Law enforcement agents killed Michael Forest Reinoehl while trying to arrest him, four officials said. He was being investigated in the fatal shooting of a supporter of a far-right group."

The original headline was also changed from "Suspect in Fatal Portland Shooting Is Reported Killed as Officers Move in" to "Suspect in Fatal Portland Shooting Killed by Officers During Arrest."

There was little mention of Reinoehl's two other gun-related incidents in addition to his admitted shooting of the Trump supporter and the reported face-off with police.

"He sometimes ran into trouble, though," NYT downplayed the deceased's recurring run in with the law.

Outside the Mark O. Hatfield federal courthouse on July 5, Reinoehl was charged for illegally possessing a loaded gun in a public place, resisting arrest, and interfering with police. His fight with officers was photographed while on the ground with a gun laid next to him. He was released quickly and the charges were never pursued.

In a third armed altercation, Reinoehl was shot in late July, displaying his bloodied arm to a journalist with Bloomberg QuickTake News, when he attempted to wrestle a gun from a stranger, who had a concealed weapons permit, during a chaotic scuffle in downtown Portland, The Oregonian reported. His wounding occurred after a brawl in Lownsdale Square, the city park across the street from the federal courthouse.

NYT noted that "[Reinoehl] had been shot while intervening in a fight" while the lawful gun owner had suffered a concussion and was bleeding from his lip. His cellphone was also stolen. “I was scared at the moment they were going to take it and use it on me,” the victim told reporters. He was later taken by ambulance to the area hospital.

Black Lives Matter activist Marquise "Keese" Love also joined the uproar on Antifa's side, who himself was arrested in a separate brutal assault in August caught on camera when he allegedly kicked a man's bleeding head and knocked him unconscious.

Meanwhile, Forbes magazine failed to report on Reinoehl's devotion to Antifa altogether, implying that the shooter was part of the "anti-racism demonstrators."

The Guardian followed suit, calling the Antifa mob "anti-racism activists."

His death came after an arrest warrant had been issued by the Portland Police Bureau on the same day that VICE magazine published a feature with the Reinoehl alleging that he acted in self-defense.

Forbes called the exposé an interview with "the army veteran who was reportedly a longstanding presence at Portland’s Black Lives Matter protests."

Even the NYT acknowledged that "an Army official said no record of service could be found under [Reinoehl's] name."

Under "What to Watch For," Forbes asserted that a "network of right-wing and anti-BLM protesters...reportedly planning counterprotests in Portland this month" could "lead to further conflict" when in fact it's Antifa and BLM radicals who have organized the approximate 100 days of riots ravaging Portland and setting the city ablaze.
