Canadian multi-millionaire and TV personality Kevin O'Leary was named in a $13 million federal lawsuit under the Marine Liability Act over a boating accident involving the O'Leary boat and another marine vehicle in 2019. The accident resulted in the deaths of two passengers on the second boat.

According to Blacklock's Reporter, lawyers representing the families of the deceased filed a claim in federal court against the O'Leary, accusing Linda O'Leary of being intoxicated and texting during the time of the accident. The O'Leary's have, in turn, filed papers to cap their financial compensation to $1 million.

The crash took place on August 24, 2019, in Muskoka, Ontario. Mrs. O'Leary was charged with careless operation of a vessel.

Court documents from lawyers claim that Kevin and Linda O'Leary were under the influence of alcohol, "failed to keep a proper lookout," and "drove at too high a rate of speed for the circumstances" that night.

"He was texting, dialing, talking or otherwise using a mobile or electronic device just before and at the time he struck the power boat," court documents read.
