After President Joe Biden announced new restrictions for international travelers to the US in light of the latest variant of Covid-19, named Omicron, Biden's main Covid man Anthony Fauci dodged a question about requirements for illegal border crossers.

The Biden administration has had a friendly relationship with illegal border crossers, with many of those traveling to the US to cross illegally through the US-Mexico border believing they have been welcomed with open arms by the administration.

"Dr. Fauci," Fox News' Peter Doocy asked, "as you advise the President about the possibility of new testing requirements for people coming into this country, does that include everybody?"

"The answer is yes," Fauci said. "Because you know that the new regulation, if you want to call it that, is that anybody and everybody who's coming into the country needs to get a test within 24 hours of getting on the plane to come here."

"What about people who don't take a plane and just these border crossers coming in huge numbers?" Doocy asked.

Fauci didn't think that legal visitors and illegal crossers were the same thing at all.

"That's a different issue, for example, we still have title 42 with regard to protection at the border that you don't have the capability, as you know, of somebody getting on a plane getting checked, looking at a passport. We don't have that there. But we can get some degree of mitigation."

"Is there something we can do to test these people somewhere else?" Doocy asked.

"There are no there is there is testing at the border under certain circumstances as you know," Fauci said.

It was in October that Demcorats in the US House struck down a measure that would have required Covid testing for illegal immigrants, who have been flooding across the border.

The proposal, called the REACT Act, was introduced twice this year, the first time being in March. On both occasions, it was blocked by House Democrats, despite a record-level surge in illegal migration over the summer of 2021.
