After video emerged showing college football fans chanting their opposition to President Joe Biden, Dr. Anthony Fauci had choice words for those fans, who he said should be wearing face masks.
"Big crowds, in stadiums," the CNN anchor said, "not clear who was required to be vaccinated, recommendations for masks, but it as you can see in these pictures, folks just weren't doing it. Is this kind of behavior going to get us on the other side of this? Or if we keep doing this are we going to be kind of stuck in outbreak mode?" He asked Fauci.
Well, we could be stuck in outbreak mode," Fauci said, "and thats why I think what you're going to be seeing in addition to that fact that we're, people are getting voluntarily vaccinated now on a more and more basis. As you've said, we've been a couple of days even over a million per day."
"I think you're going to see a lot more local mandates, Jim," Fauci said. "I think they're going to be organizations, they're going to be universities, they're going to be colleges, they're going to be sports events, travel events, where the rule is going to be if you want to participate, you get vaccinated. If not, sorry, you're not going to be able to do it."
"And I think when we get more and more of that, I think we're going to see a great diminution in the number of cases," Fauci said.
Fauci was asked if he "approved" of the fans flocking to games, or if he thought that was "not smart."
"No," Fauci said, "I don't think it's smart. I think when you're dealing particularly in, y'know, outdoors is always better than indoors, but even when you have such a congregate setting of people close together—first, you should be vaccinated. And when you have congregate settings, particularly indoors, you should be wearing a mask."
College football fans across the country packed stadiums for more than 50 games over the weekend, and many videos emerged showing full stadiums of people chanting "f*ck Joe Biden."
