On Tuesday, federal investigators raided the Lower Manhattan headquarters of the NYPD's Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) in connection to an ongoing investigation. An FBI spokeswoman confirmed the action to the New York Daily News, saying that the agency was "carrying out a law enforcement action in connection with an ongoing investigation" into the SBA.

According to the New York Post, SBA head Ed Mullins's home in Port Washington was raided as well. Mullins, who took over leadership of the SBA in 2002, is known "for his over-the-top social media attacks on NYPD leadership and Mayor de Blasio," according to the New York Daily News.

Mullins came under fire in 2020 after posting the arrest report of New York City mayor Bill de Blasio's daughter, Chiara de Blasio, on social media following her arrest during the George Floyd protests of last summer. Mullins was reportedly hit with departmental charges for violation of NYPD rules.

According to the New York Post, the tweet contained confidential, unredacted documents pertaining to Chiara's arrest. "How can the NYPD protect the city of NY from rioting anarchist when the Mayors object throwing daughter is one of them. Now we know why he is forbidding Mounted units to be mobilized and keeping the NYPD from doing their jobs," read the SBA tweet.

Mullins is reportedly facing a trial on internal charges related to that tweet, as well as other social media posts he had made.

Mayor de Blasio noted at an unrelated press conference on Tuesday that he had heard the union office had been raided by the feds. "All I've been told is the FBI has raided the SBA headquarters," de Blasio said.
