Fifth body recovered in deadly Kelowna, BC crane collapse

A fifth body has been recovered following the collapse of a crane in Kelowna, British Columbia.

A crane at a construction site for a luxury condominium building in the city's downtown tumbled on Monday.

Since, the scene has been searched by a specialized task force from Vancouver Fire Heavy Urban Search and Rescue, Global News reports. They recovered the fifth body overnight.

This news after four other men had been found dead, including brothers Eric and Patrick Stemmer, as well as Jared Zook, and Cailen Vilness. All four were construction workers.

RCMP say they believe the man was working in an adjacent building, and was buried in the rumble when the crane crashed down.

In a news release, Kelowna RCMP Insp. Adam MacIntosh said  that "Everyone involved in this tragic scene has worked tirelessly to bring the search for victims to an end."

He added that "At this time, we do not believe there are any other persons who were injured or killed as a result of the collapse of this crane. Our deepest condolences go to the family, friends, and coworkers of those who were lost here."

A statement was put out by the British Columbia's Labour Minister Harry Bains. "I am deeply saddened to hear about the terrible incident involving a construction crane in Kelowna today. My thoughts are with the workers affected, and I send my sincere condolences to the families, friends and co-workers of the victims."

A GoFundMe page have been set up for the families of the victims. Including one for the Stemmer brothers, one for Vilness' family, and one for Zook's relatives.
