A man from Leduc, a suburb of Edmonton, was charged with murder on Tuesday after the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old girl the previous day, Edmonton Journal reports.
Dylan Thomas Pountney, 19, was arrested in a Leduc subdivision after Jennifer Louise Winkler was stabbed to death at Christ the King Catholic High School.
Winkler was stabbed in her classroom at 10:00 am and was airlifted to a local hospital. She succumbed to her injuries while under hospital care.
While the relationship between Pountney and Winkler was not explained by police, prosecutors believe that the murder was planned and deliberate.
Pountney had previously been charged with assault with a weapon and mischief under $5,000 last year after allegedly threatening Nathan Pountney with a knife. Despite sharing surnames, the relationship between the two is unclear.
A GoFundMe has been set up to cover the costs of Winkler's funeral.
