A Florida couple has been charged after they failed to self-isolate in northern Ontario for 14 days following their entry to Canada, say the Ontario Provincial Police.
The couple came into Canada on July 3 through the Fort Erie border crossing in Ontario, according to Global News.
Police say they were on their way to a seasonal property.
The Public Health Agency of Canada called the OPP in North Bay six days later requesting that a compliance check be completed by officers under Canada’s Quarantine Act.
The isolation period is mandatory for people arriving from outside of Canada during the coronavirus pandemic.
After initiating the investigation, officers found that the couple was not following the self-isolation order.
The 70-year-old and 68-year-old received charges of failing to comply with an order when entering Canada. They were also fined $1,000 and issued provincial offence notices.
The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit is now looking into the matter and the couple is being monitored until their isolation period is over, say police.
