Florida sheriff Darryl Daniels said he will "make special deputies of every lawful gun owner" in Clay County so they may join law enforcement in defending property and handling protests that may turn violent, according to WTSP.
"If we can't handle you, I'll exercise the power and authority as the sheriff, and I'll make special deputies of every lawful gun owner in this county and I'll deputize them for this one purpose: to stand in the gap between lawlessness and civility," Daniels said.
"You’ve been warned," Daniels said.
Daniels called out the mainstream media for the destructive message that "law enforcement is the enemy of the citizens that we’re sworn to protect and serve."
"Don’t fall victim to subjecting yourself to this conversation that law enforcement is bad," Daniels said.
Daniels said that the police force took an oath to support, protect, and defend the US. Constitution. Their vow ends with, "So help me God," he said.
"But God is absent from the media's message or Black Lives Matter or any other group out there that's making themselves a spectacle disrupting what we know to be our quality of life in this country," Daniels said.
In Clay County, community members support the men and women in uniform, Daniels pointed out, and the relationship between civilians and the police is not strained compared to the civil unrest visible across the country.
Lawlessness is unacceptable in America and especially unacceptable in his jurisdiction, Daniels emphasized.
"And if you threaten to come to Clay County and think for one second that we’ll bend our backs for you, you’re sadly mistaken," Daniels continued.
Daniels stood in front of his line of deputies who he said have the backbones to stop any invasion into their peaceful communities.
He promised to protect everyone’s constitutional rights as long as they remain under the umbrella of peaceful protest.
For those who choose to step outside the boundaries of free speech, the blue line will be waiting and ready with "all the publicity, all the pain, all the glamour and glory for all that five minutes will give you," Daniels warned.
His speech is not a threat, Daniels stressed, but "somebody has to step up in front of the camera and say, 'Enough is enough.'"
