Ladapo noted that when he previously called on the US Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control to admit that there were risks, they responded with "a word salad of pandering and gaslighting."
"Your ongoing decision to ignore many of the risks associated with mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, alongside your efforts to manipulate the public into thinking they are harmless, have resulted in deep distrust in the American health care system," Ladapo wrote to Drs. Califf and Walensky.
He slammed the federal government for "relentlessly forc[ing] a premature vaccine into the arms of the American people with little to no concern for the serious adverse ramifications," noting that the problem began with the Trump administration's Operation Warp Speed, and has been made worse by his successor.
The Surgeon General argued that officials at federal agencies were dismissing the risk of myocarditis to certain demographics, citing data from the CDC and other sources proving that dangerous side effects were more common than they had let on. He slammed the feds as "the main entities promoting vaccine hesitancy," and issued a list of demands with the goal of forcing the government to come clean to the public.
Ladapo called on the CDC and FDA to explain the delay in publishing data showing adverse side effects, specifically studies proving an increased risk of myocarditis in young males who received the mRNA vaccine.
He also requested that the federal departments report the number of young people who died shortly after receiving a second dose or booster shot of the mRNA vaccine.
Florida has been at the forefront of the opposition, pushing against Biden administration's campaign to vaccinate. On Thursday, Governor Ron DeSantis signed new legislation banning vaccine mandates for schools, businesses, and government entities.
