Premier Doug Ford has announced a plan to reopen Windsor-Essex, reports CBC News.
The City of Windsor will begin Stage 2 of the reopening on June 25 along with surrounding municipalities and towns with the exception of Kingsville and Leamington.
"With the exception of Leamington and Kingsville, Windsor-Essex will move to Stage 2, effective tomorrow," said Ford during a briefing on Wednesday.
Due to the high amount of coronavirus cases in Windsor-Essex, it is the last part of Ontario to enter Stage 2 in the provinces reopening plan.
A three-point plan was also announced by the province with intentions of lowering the spread of coronavirus on farms and also attempting to provide temporary foreign workers with more support.
Most of the cases in the region are from the area’s migrant farm workers.
The plan will give migrant workers the same benefits that Canadian workers receive, such as protections falling under the Employment Standards act and workers’ compensation benefits from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.
On-site testing will also be provided for farm workers as well as new public health guidance allowing workers who are asymptomatic to continue working "as long as they follow the public health measures in their workplace to minimize the risk of transmission to others."
