Ontario Premier Doug Ford has asked residents of the province to celebrate July 1 in a responsible manner and to continue to adhere to public health advice while wishing everyone a happy Canada Day, according to CTV News.
“Whether you're celebrating at the cottage, in a park, on a patio or at home this Canada Day, please remember to stay safe and act responsibly by following public health advice,” said Ford, adding, “Wear a mask when physical distancing is a challenge, and wash your hands frequently. Being considerate of others is the Canadian way.”
On Wednesday, Ford sent out greeting for Canada's 153rd birthday along with a reminder to keep to the physical distancing measures during “one of the darkest periods in Ontario’s history.”
“The COVID-19 pandemic touched everyone in the province, creating personal and financial hardship and resulting in losses far greater than anyone could have imagined,” said Ford in the statement.
“As a country, as a province and as a people, Canadians have always come together in the face of adversity and worked together to defeat the threats we faced. The past few months have been no exception.”
Ford also reminded Ontarians to keep their social gatherings to no more than 10 people and to remain two metres apart from anyone who is not part of your social circle.
Some people are holding virtual Canada Day celebrations online as one way to keep adherence to the physical distancing bylaws, including the city of Toronto's all-day virtual celebration that began on Wednesday morning.
