The Ford government will table a motion on Monday to replace Chief Officer of Health for the province, Dr. David Williams.
Dr. Williams will be replaced with the Kingston-area top doctor, Kieran Moore, who will work alongside Williams starting in June to ease the transition, reports The Canadian Press.
Williams set initially set to retire in September.
Williams has been Ontario's top doctor since 2016, and has been criticized as of late over his handling of the pandemic, with some calling for his firing.
"The easy thing for Dr. Williams to do would have been to wash your hands and say, 'I don’t need this anymore,' but he is not built that way. He is a man of integrity, a man of honesty and he is passionate about helping the people of Ontario," said Ford during a press conference in November.
"I can assure you that Dr. Williams doesn't need the few extra dollars from the next seven months, I am sure he would rather be up at a cottage somewhere, but this is what this man is made of, and I think he is incredible."
