The Miami gender surgeon who specializes in amputating the healthy breasts of teenage girls and young women and advertises her services directly to vulnerable young people via social media is facing backlash from several former patients who say they experienced severe post-op complications.
Dr. Sidhbh Gallagher, the celebrity surgeon who jokingly refers to herself as Dr. Teetus Deletus, has been under increased scrutiny since one of her obese trans-identified biological female patients told the harrowing tale of experiencing life-threatening complications after going under Gallagher’s knife.
A Daily Wire investigation from Christina Buttons has since uncovered five more overweight former patients claiming to have suffered similar complications following bilateral mastectomies performed by Gallagher.
Given the increased risk of complications when operating on overweight people, most plastic surgeons have a BMI cap for elective surgeries. Gallagher, on the other hand, has no such requirement. She is willing to operate on patients of any shape and size, and according to the Daily Wire report, her own published research indicates that around 54 percent of her patients are obese.
“In an effort to be as inclusive as possible we do not have an absolute cut off BMI requirement for patients who are interested in undergoing top surgery,” reads the information section on Gallagher’s website, which goes on to claim that Gallagher “specializes in providing top surgery to higher BMI patients and ensuring safe and natural results.”
Rylan, whose gruesome story went viral on several social media platforms last month, was one of those obese patients. The young trans-identified female had traveled from Ohio to Florida for the procedure after being unable to find a surgeon closer to home who was willing to perform it.
Complications started on day 4 with the appearance of a hematoma, and things got progressively worse when the incision opened, became infected, and started to rot. Rylan alleges that Gallagher didn’t take the complications seriously, and even, true-to-style, had a cutesy name for the gaping wound: a “blowhole.”
The nightmare ended with the youth having over half a foot of dead, rotting tissue removed after weeks of agonizing pain.
But after Rylan’s story went viral, Buttons reports that several other obese former patients of the celebrity “gender-affirming” surgeon recounted their own alleged tales of complications in a private, 32,000 member Facebook group for “top surgery” patients.
The trans-identified female from Oregon with a BMI of 55.8, which is classified as “super morbid obese” turned to Gallagher for breast amputation after a local surgeon required a weight loss of 25 pounds prior to surgery. This patient, like Rylan, developed a “large blowhole” six days post-op.
As in Rylan’s case, the young patient reports that Gallagher brushed off concerns and instead advised letting it drain. Three weeks later, the patient ended up in the ER where lab tests confirmed a staph infection and an emergency procedure was performed to drain the large fluid abscess that had formed. Despite all this, the trans-identified female has plans to undergo a “gender-affirming” hysterectomy next.
Another overweight former patient, this time from Oklahoma, also claims to have developed a serious post-op infection and reports struggling to be taken seriously by the celebrity surgeon.
“I developed an infection in three spots and pushed hard for antibiotics,” the patient said in the closed Facebook group. “She wasn’t very communicative with me. I blew up her phone and her office phone to get a response.”
“She kept telling me to put over-the-counter antibiotic ointment on it and wouldn’t prescribe me antibiotics until it was spreading and open and then she prescribed me antibiotics in pill form. [I] took all of them, it did nothing,” the young patient added.
A similar story was told by an obese trans-identified female from Illinois who also experienced “several open, oozing, and red spots that were painful.” Gallagher allegedly said this was normal.
Another California patient ended up in the ER with a post-op infection and fever which required a two-day hospital stay.
Lastly, a female patient who underwent a medically unnecessary bilateral mastectomy when weighing 250 pounds also described the incision opening resulting in a serious infection.
“I’m a week post op and the infection I got from surgery has been getting steadily worse despite antibiotics to the point that now my incision is open and cannot be reclosed,” the patient wrote in 2017. “Because my surgeon is almost entirely hands off post-op I went to a random nurse practitioner in their office to get it packed with gauze but… it’s just not healing right.”
Gallagher, who has reportedly opted out of having malpractice insurance as a cunning way to avoid being sued, doesn’t just perform bilateral mastectomies on people who believe themselves to be members of the opposite sex. A member of the same Facebook group also claims to know two patients who underwent vaginoplasty who were allegedly left with “basically non-functioning genitals, constant pain and very awful urinary tract issues.”
Vaginoplasty is an extremely difficult surgery involving the amputation of the penis which is then used to create a cavity to resemble a vagina. The procedure comes with a high rate of complications.
Last year, five organizations involved in campaigning for better care for those suffering from gender distress filed an official complaint to Biden’s Federal Trade Commission (FTC) against Gallagher for alleged false promotion of services to minors. Those groups are now calling on health authorities to step up and investigate the surgeon in light of the recent stories being shared.
Despite the many devastating stories being told online by her former patients, the Florida State Medical Board has yet to receive an official complaint from one of her former patients, which is an essential requirement in order to launch a formal investigation. A board official told the Daily Wire that it is possible for complainants to remain anonymous as long as they provide contact information and are willing to cooperate with the investigation.
Anyone wishing to make a formal complaint can do so via the Florida Health Care Complaint Portal.Powered by StructureCMS™ Comments
