John Robert Leigh Taylor has pleaded guilty to numerous sexual assault charges following an arrest and investigation by Guelph police.
He served on the Windsor police force between 1970-80 and was investigated for similar allegations during this period. However, he wasn’t charged by Windsor police until this year. As well as being a police officer, he was also a foster parent and a baseball coach, and was, thus, in proximity with children most of his life.
Taylor was originally arrested in 2017 at the age of 64, but wasn’t prosecuted until this year, at the age of 67, for multiple counts of sexual assault against children.
According to a Guelph police news release, Taylor was sentenced earlier this week in a Guelph Superior Court. He will serve a 4-year sentence for his crimes; however, there is no statute of limitations on the nature of his crimes and police have urged any other potential victims to come forward.
