The founder of Drag Queen Story Hour UK is fundraising for the funeral of a pedophile drag queen who was found dead Monday.
On Jan 23, drag performer Aida H. Dee launched a crowdfunder for the funeral costs of his deceased friend and fellow drag queen Darren Moore, reports Reduxx.
Moore, a convicted sex offender and drag performer, went missing after a regular Sunday night show at a gay nightclub and was discovered dead in the early hours of Monday morning still wearing his full stage outfit.
South Wales Police say they have arrested a 50-year-old man on suspicion of manslaughter who is currently being held in custody.
Moore was convicted of four counts of rape on a boy under age 14 and served three years in a Young Offenders’ Institution.
According to Reduxx, Moore was banned from having contact with children following this conviction was later caught working as a youth dance and gymnastics instructor and convicted of breaching the lifetime order.
This resulted in his being sentenced to a three-year sex offender’s treatment program, a 24-month supervision order, 300 hours of community service, and a six-month curfew with an electronic tag.
At the time of his death, Moore was working as a jeweler and drag performer. His drag names were Crystal Couture, CC Quinn, and Dolly. Moore’s jewelry was exhibited at RuPaul’s 2020 Dragcon event in London.
“Taken unjustly!” wrote Dee on Facebook with a link to a GoFundMe page. “I’d like to give my friend the send off he deserves.”
Nowhere in the Facebook post or the fundraiser is there any mention that Moore was a convicted sex offender.
Dee, whose real name is Sab Samuel, described Moore as “an exuberant human being, taken from the world too early.”
“Rest in power,” Samuel added, who has been repeatedly sharing the fundraising campaign link on his Facebook page.
“Anyone who knew Darren would know how he was never understated in his appearance and costume,” reads the GoFundMe. “His larger than life character and charisma was something that you'll never forget. We'd like to support Darren and the family and give Darren the biggest send off. If you're able too and can afford a few quid, please donate what you can to ensure we do him proud.”
Samuel has faced criticism in the past for his choice of drag costume for children’s storytime events, with what Reduxx called its “prominent genital bulge,” but this hasn’t stopped libraries and other children’s events from booking his act.
Recently it was announced that Samuel would be performing at The Tate Gallery in London, which prompted a concerned parents group to launch a petition and lodge a formal complaint with the gallery.
The petition raises red flags about Samuel’s online activity, including a 2020 social media post containing the phrase “love has no age,” which has been used by a movement that campaigns for the lowering of the age of consent.
Samuel founded Drag Queen Story Hour in 2019. The events are frequently met with protests, and Samuel is facing increased backlash. He recently accused the Conservative government of enabling “queer hate” in an interview with Pink News.Powered by StructureCMS™ Comments
