Four men are facing charges after guns that were allegedly smuggled into Canada were seized close to Cornwall, according to the RCMP.
The guns were allegedly smuggled from the United States into Canada by three Ottawa men and one Toronto man, reports the Ottawa Citizen.
RCMP said the four men were arrested after a traffic stop where police found 14 prohibited devices and nine firearms.
RCMP began the "complex investigation" with the Canada Border Services Agency on June 10 when a man was spotted carrying a duffle bag after getting off a boat close to Glen Walter—roughly 10 kilometres east of Cornwall. After leaving the boat, the man entered a vehicle.
The three men from Ottawa are all 20-years-old and the Toronto man is 23. They are facing 92 charges including possession of a firearm without a licence, importing a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of a prohibited device. Additional charges include smuggling which falls under the Customs Act.
The men have been released on bail and are awaiting future court dates.
