The 2016 travel ban initially began with 4 states as a way to put economic pressure on states that did not fall in line with the liberal agenda but in a comical backfire, it ballooned to 23 as red states held strong to their policies.
On Wednesday, Senator Toni Atkins (D-San Diego) introduced Senate Bill 447 which would repeal the travel ban, according to the Washington Free Beacon.
The very next day Newsom announced he would be traveling to Alabama, Arkansas, and Mississippi—three states covered by the ban—to promote his newly launched political action committee, the Campaign For Democracy.
In an interview with the Washington Free Beacon, a spokesman for Newsom insisted that Atkins' legislation and Newsom's announcement the following day that he'd be traveling to 3 of the 23 formerly banned states were not related.
Atkins claims the bill is meant "to create inclusive messaging, discourage discrimination, and help members of the LGBTQ+ community feel less isolated."
