Accused pedophile, Ghislaine Maxwell, is reportedly woken up every fifteen minutes in her cell with a flashlight in order to prevent her from committing suicide, her lawyers said in a letter, Tuesday.
"Ms. Maxwell’s sleep is disrupted every 15-minutes when she is awakened by a flashlight to ascertain whether she is breathing," Maxwell's lawyers' letter reads, according to the New York Post.
The letter from Maxwell's lawyers was written following a Monday letter from federal prosecutors to a Judge about a Metropolitan Detention Center staffer, who works in proximity with Maxwell, testing positive for COVID-19, the NY Post reports. Maxwell was reportedly put in quarantine as a result of this scare.
The letter from federal prosecutors claimed that Maxwell had received better treatment than other inmates during her brush with a COVID-19 infection. Maxwell's attorney, Bobbi Sternheim, countered, writing that conditions were unfavorable for Maxwell and that she was put at a high risk for exposure to the virus.
"Ms. Maxwell has spent the entirely of her pretrial detention in de facto solitary confinement under the most restrictive conditions where she is excessively and invasively searched and is monitored 24 hours per day," Sternheim wrote.
"Ms. Maxwell was ordered to remove her COVID-protection mask for an in-mouth inspection, further risking exposure to the virus," Sternheim continued.
Maxwell was allegedly quarantined without soap or a toothbrush and the facility's medical staff had stopped checking in on here each day, her lawyer's letter says.
Maxwell is being held without bail and is accused of grooming minors for sexual abuse involving her and Jeffrey Epstein.
