COVID-19 cases jumped by another million in just four days, bringing the global total past 18 million as of Monday, according to John Hopkins University's coronavirus data.
Public health data from the university shows that there have been 18,102,671 new cases of coronavirus confirmed as of roughly 8:30 a.m. ET.
The global death toll attributed to the virus is now 689,908 people, according to the university. Over 10.7 million people have made recoveries.
The most cases can be found in the United States with more than 4.6 million as of Monday, reports Johns Hopkins. Over 154,860 people have died from the virus in the U.S.
The second-most cases have been reported in Brazil with over 2.7 million. After Brazil is India with more than 1.8 million cases.
On Saturday, South Africa exceeded 500,000 cases—the fifth highest number behind Russia.
The new total follows a global coronavirus case count of about 17 million on July 29 and comes as many countries are now fighting with an increase in cases.
Experts report that the true number of worldwide coronavirus cases is far higher than the current amount of confirmed cases.
