Good Morning America falsely states Ketanji Brown Jackson is the FIRST black Supreme Court Justice

ABC's Good Morning America made quite the unfortunate mistake on Thursday when discussing the swearing in of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.

The show falsely stated that Brown Jackson made history as the first black Supreme Court Justice.

Thurgood Marshall was the first black American to serve as a United States Supreme Court Justice after the US Senate confirmed his nomination in 1967. Justice Clarence Thomas, who is also black, was nominated by President H.W. Bush to fill the seat left vacant by Thurgood Marshall and has been sitting on the High Court since October 23, 1991.

"Ketanji Brown Jackson is sworn in as the first Black Supreme Court justice in U.S. history," Good Morning America said in a tweet on Thursday.

GMA deleted the tweet after individuals were quick to point out the error, and issued multiple reports shortly after stating that Kentanji Brown Jackson is the "first black female justice" of the United States Supreme Court.

Nominated by President Joe Biden, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on Thursday was sworn in as the newest United States Supreme Court Justice.

Throughout her confirmation process, she faced criticism for her judicial philosophy and inability to define the word "woman," arguing that she wasn't "a biologist." Sen. Rand Paul suggested that this would affect her ability to rule in Title IX cases.

Republicans grilled the judge on her on her lenient sentences for child pornographers and questioned the fact that she served on the board of an elite prep school in Washington, DC.

Following her confirmation, Democrats and the media celebrated the fact that a black woman would be sitting on the Supreme Court. At the time, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called it a "joyous, momentous, groundbreaking day."
