Seattle's public school system has cancelled a Halloween themed parade because it "marginalizes people of colour." According to Just The News, the city's Benjamin Franklin Elementary School ended the tradition, following the guidance of the Racial Equity Team.

However, the school still plans to hold an alternate event "with more inclusive and educational opportunities during the school day." According to a spokesperson, "historically, the Pumpkin Parade marginalizes students of color who do not celebrate the holiday."

The spokesperson also suggested the decision to cancel the parade was based on requests from some students "to be isolated on campus" while the event took place. This is seemingly because the event would be too triggering, although there is no evidence of any children ever indicating this.

"In alliance with SPS’s unwavering commitment to students of color, specifically African American males, the staff is committed to supplanting the Pumpkin Parade with more inclusive and educational opportunities during the school day," the spokesperson also said.
