Famed NHL defenseman Bobby Orr paid for a full page ad in the New Hampshire Union Leader wherein he endorsed President Donald Trump for reelection.
In his endorsement, Orr described the "extremely difficult conditions" under which he believes the President has had to operate. "The attacks on our President have been unrelenting since the day he took office. Despite that, President Trump has delivered for all the American people, regardless of race, gender, or station in life."
"That's the kind of teammate I want," Orr bolded.
Orr did not specify any particular policies he approves of which Trump has delivered on or why he personally supports these policies.
The retired defenseman insisted that those who may be repulsed by the president's tweeting habits or general personality traits should look past those issues, arguing that policies matter significantly more. "[This] is not a personality contest," Orr wrote.
With his endorsement, Orr joins a number of other sporting legends who have endorsed Trump for reelection, including the NFL's Brett Favre and golfing's Jack Nicklaus.
"Some of you may still be undecided at this point. Your vote for President Trump would help keep America moving forward in the years ahead. So please, join Peggy and me in supporting President Donald J. Trump for re-election in this important election," Orr finished.
Orr, 72, played for the Boston Bruins for ten years followed by two years with the Chicago Blackhawks. During his 12 years on the rink he won two Stanley Cups, eight consecutive Norris Trophies for his role as defenseman, and three consecutive Hart Trophies, awarded to the NHL's most valuable player (MVP). He was the youngest NHL player to ever be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
According to Orr, who is Canadian, this is the first time he has ever endorsed a candidate for President.
