Jack Dorsey has officially left Twitter's Board of Directors.

In November 2021, Twitter announced that Jack Dorsey would be stepping down as CEO, and that his last day on the Board of Directors would be the company's next stockholder meeting.

On Wednesday, the meeting took place, and with that, Dorsey left his position on the Board.

The move was announced via newswire on November 29, 2021. Also noted was that Dorsey would "remain a member of the Board until his term expires at the 2022 meeting of stockholders" on May 25.

Dorsey explained that his decision to step down as CEO of the company he co-founded was based on the feeling that Twitter was "ready to move on."

Since leaving his position as CEO, Dorsey has been quite public about his thoughts regarding the company and the role he played in shaping how society functions online.

In April, he expressed regret for helping facilitate the "centralization of discovery and identity into corporations," reminiscing about the golden age of the internet where everything was new and the future of the web seemed bright.

He also mentioned how marketing has been allowed to dominate social media platforms to the detriment of users.

"Perhaps greater emphasis on protocol first and then interface would have helped," he tweeted. "I agree there were less technology options around making money tho. It led to advertising dominating."

Dorsey has expressed a desire to see the internet become more "open," and for free speech to be paramount on social media platforms.

During the controversy surrounding Elon Musk's purchase of Twitter, Dorsey supported the billionaire in his endeavor to fix the company and restore it to its former glory, but added that he had no plans to help Musk run the company.
