Human Events Daily host Jack Posobiec said on Wednesday's episode of his show that the Biden administration's Department of Justice targeting Project Veritas "sets a precedent" that "destroys our First Amendment protections."

The mistreatment of investigative organization Project Veritas at the hands of President Joe Biden's Justice Department has proven too egregious even for the progressive ACLU. Posobiec explained on his podcast how the DOJ's "persecution" of Project Veritas is an attack on the freedom of the press in America.

The segment began with a clip of Project Veritas founder James O'Keefe stating: "Project Veritas has just obtained documents showing the SDNY [the Southern District of New York] was spying on Project Veritas journalists well before the FBI raided the homes of our journalists last November, secretly reading our emails, concealing that from the court in our case against the SDNY."

Posobiec then jumped in, saying, "So, more disturbing information coming out about the Department of Justice, particularly the Southern District of New York, and their persecution, and that's what this clearly is, a persecution, of Project Veritas, a journalistic organization, going after them."

"Now, they were tipped off ... that they were being spied on for months, electronically, in ways that they didn't even know about. They weren't even informed of any of this stuff," Posobiec continued. "Apparently, and according to O'Keefe, they mislead a judge in all of this ... And they were doing it behind the back of a judge [who] had ordered them not to do this," Posobiec explained. "They were going after his lawyer. They were going after privileged documents."

"You've even now got groups like the ACLU coming out..." continued Posobiec. Critics have slammed the organization's recent record of not standing up for free speech despite billing itself as a historical defender of citizen rights.

"The ACLU also pointed out that the precedent that is being set now by using Project Veritas as an example, going after them in a way that destroys our First Amendment protections here in the US for freedom of the press, is shocking."

"And it sets a precedent that could be used against anyone."

Earlier in the week, the ACLU released a statement Tuesday in response to allegations from Project Veritas that prosecutors misled a federal court and sought unwarranted gag orders during a federal investigation of the group's ties to obtaining a diary belonging to the president's daughter Ashley Biden:

"We deplore Project Veritas' deceptions, and we don't have a full picture of the government's investigation. But we're concerned that the precedent set by this case could have serious consequences for press freedom. We're deeply troubled by reports that the Department of Justice obtained secret electronic surveillance orders requiring sweeping disclosure of 'all content' of communications associated with Project Veritas email accounts, including attorney-client communications."
