"We are the only party talking about increasing revenue, basically taxing the ultra-rich so we can pay for the investments that people need," said Singh.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh boasted on Thursday about his party's plan to implement new taxes on Canada's one percent.

"No other party is willing to say those words," said Singh, according to Blacklock's Reporter.

"We are the only party talking about increasing revenue, basically taxing the ultra-rich so we can pay for the investments that people need," said Singh. "We are the only ones."

"You took a very similar program into the 2019 election and lost fifteen seats," one reporter said on Thursday. "How do you convince Canadians who saw the same thing on the menu last time and didn’t vote for you?"

"Sometimes you look at items on the menu and say, ‘You know what, maybe I should have bought that thing last time,’" said Singh. "That’s what we are hoping."

Among Singh's proposals are an increase to the top federal income tax rate, from 33 percent to 35 percent, increases to the corporate income tax rate from 15 percent to 18 percent, and a one percent estate tax on tax filers with net equity over $20 million.

In all, the New Democrats' new taxes would increase tax revenue by over $29 billion per year.

Singh also suggested a $20 federal minimum wage.

"No other party can make any commitment to invest in people without either cutting existing services or putting the burden back on people,” said SIngh.
