The January 6 committee did not attempt to reach out to the Secret Service prior to the testimony regarding an alleged incident between then-President Donald Trump and his security detail.
The hearing claimed that Trump "lunged" at the steering wheel during the Capital Hill riots on January 6, in a rage of fury because his drivers would not bring him to the Capitol.
The Secret Service's Chief of Communications Anthony Guglielmi told Politico that the January 6 committee didn't so much as ask the service's personnel to "reappear or answer questions in writing in the 10 days before asking [former White House aide Cassidy] Hutchinson about the matter at the hearing."
"[W]e were not asked to reappear before the Committee in response to yesterday’s new information and we plan on formally responding on the record," he wrote in an email to the outlet.
"We have and will continue to make any member of the Secret Service available."
Secret Service members have reportedly since said anonymously that they are willing to testify under oath that the incident with Trump did not take place, something that Hutchinson's attorney, Jody Hunt, said she has evidence to the contrary.
"Ms. Hutchinson testified, under oath, and recounted what she was told," he wrote. "Those with knowledge of the episode also should testify under oath."
The Secret Service has made it clear. however, that January 6 investigators have full access to any document or witness that they deem relevant, and the committee could have obtained any needed documents prior to Hutchinson's hearing.
