American rapper Kanye West declared his candidacy for U.S. president in the 2020 race.

“We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States,” Kanye West tweeted out on late Saturday night.

Within minutes, Elon Musk endorsed West: “You have my full support!”

SAINT then suggested Musk as West’s running mate while reposting Wednesday’s iconic “matching orange outfits” pose.

West first publicized his 2020 plans at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, according to The Independent.

But in an interview two years ago, West had alluded to his bid for presidency but not until 2024. “If I decide to do it, it will be done, I’m not going to try,” West said on radio with Power 92 Chicago.

West, who had proudly sported President Donald Trump’s signature Make America Great Again hat, will supposedly be running against his other half in the nation’s most confusing bromance. Just last year, West visited the White House to affirm his love for Trump and vowed to wait to run until after Trump’s hopeful re-election.

“So when I said ‘I like Trump’ to, like, someone that’s liberal, they’ll say, ‘Oh, but he’s racist.’ You think racism could control me? Oh, that don’t stop me,” West said in the Oval Office, according to a transcript of the conversation.

Perhaps the ever-defiant rapper is once again making himself the very essence of counterculture for the sake of sticking it to the powers that be, or perhaps he's simply trying to sell a new pair of shoes.

With primaries concluded and the election just a few months away, is West just blowing smoke or will he seriously be on the ballot as an independent?

The performer has never stopped performing, even on Independence Day when the nation’s eyes are glued to the horse race politics playing out on social media.
