Alberta premier Jason Kenney said that his province would be headed towards hitting a severe 25 percent unemployment rate at Tuesday's coronavirus press conference.
The premier points to business closures and historical lows for oil prices as the culprit.
"The shutdown in much of our economy is having a devastating impact... Based on some polling that we've done and some analysis, I fully expect unemployment in Alberta to be at least 25 percent, at least half a million unemployed Albertans."
Kenney believes the pandemic will pose the most challenging period in the province's economic history since the Great Depression.
