With both the Derek Chauvin trial ongoing and the new, developing situation surrounding Daunte Wright in the spotlight, new details involving the officer in last year’s shooting of Jacob Blake have been announced.
No charges were filed against Officer Rusten Sheskey. In fact as of today he’s cleared to return to work.
“As of March 31st 2021, Officer Sheskey has returned from administrative leave. Although this incident has been reviewed at multiple levels, I know that some will not be pleased with the outcome; however, given the facts, the only lawful and appropriate decision was made.”
As outlined by Police Chief Daniel Miskinis:
“The Kenosha Police use of force incident on August 23, 2020 was investigated by an outside agency; has been reviewed by an independent expert as well as the Kenosha County District Attorney. Officer Sheskey was not charged with any wrong doing. He acted within the law and was consistent with training. This incident was also reviewed internally. Officer Sheskey was found to have been acting within policy and will not be subjected to discipline.”
The Jacob Blake situation late last year in Kenosha, Wisconsin caught a wave of public backlash comparable to the George Floyd fallout. Despite the widespread reports claiming Blake was unarmed, he had a knife on him. The August 2020 altercation between Blake and police ended with Blake shot in the back seven times and was left paralyzed.
OAN's JAck Posobeic pointed out his early scoop on the story, tweeting "Kenosha Officer is now back on duty. @OANN sources broke the story 6 months ago."
Police were there in the first place because Kenosha authorities were responding to a 911 call placed by Blake’s ex-girlfriend. He came to her house in violation of a restraining order. Video showed that Blake wrestled with two officers. The shooting happened after he walked away from officers and opened up the driver’s side door of a vehicle.
