The Edson Food Bank was robbed over the weekend on either Friday or Saturday, according to CTV News.

Kevin Zahara, the mayor of the town, confirmed the robbery and noted that more than 500 pounds of ground beef and other food supplies were stolen. There was also minor damage and a large mess left behind by the thief.

He added that there is still some food at the food bank but donations are being accepted to make up for the lost food.

In a Facebook post Zahara said, “Edson we need your help. The Edson Food Bank was broken into last night/this morning. This is very upsetting. The people and volunteers involved with the Food Bank dedicate their lives to help people and if food was needed they would have given it to whomever needed it.”

“Over 500 pounds of ground beef was stolen along with a bunch of other food. Food was strewn across the floors and down the alley behind the building. Some minor damage was caused inside. If you know anything about this please contact the RCMP. Edson RCMP are currently on scene gathering evidence. The Town of Edson will do what we can to assist the Food Bank during this time.”

“In the meantime volunteers are cleaning up and still assessing exactly what was stolen and the damage caused. They still have food but we will need to help replenish their stock. Once we know exactly what is needed we will be sure to share with you.”

Zahara said the incident is being investigated by police.
