A medical student has filed an amended lawsuit against the president of his school of medicine, as well as thirteen others, over a July 2020 expulsion that the suit claims was over political reasons.
According to The Daily Wire, medical student Austin Clark has filed a lawsuit claiming the University of Louisville expelled him for pro-life views.
He’s described as a fourth-year medical student who also served as the president of the school’s “Medical Students for Life” organization. The inciting moment where Clark’s viewpoints became an apparent issue was in November 2018, where he hosted Christian public speaker Alex McFarland for a speech.
The subject of the presentation was an argument over when life began.
It was after that when the staff’s treatment of Austin Clark changed. Instructors allegedly called him “stupid” and gave him a failing grade for his coursework despite “objectively” passing otherwise.
Much of the details are further outlined on the Students for Life official page.
Clark's teacher Dr. Thomas Neely "refused to allow Clark to meet with him in his office and required him to sit in a chair in the hallway and speak through an open doorway."
This type of treatment led to mental health damages on the part of Clark. He says he was treated with “heightened scrutiny” for his personal views.
According to Fox News, Austin Clark seeks to be reinstated amid calls that his first and fourteenth amendment rights were violated.
The breaking point was an ultimatum where Clark was forced to either “take medical leave” or sign a “professionalism agreement” at the mercy of the school’s Student Promotions Committee.
