A Twitter account controlled by left wing activist group, Shut Down DC, tweeted a rallying cry to supporters to ready themselves for the return of the right-wing group, the Proud Boys, on January 6 in Washington DC.
In recent weeks, the streets of DC have seen multiple violent clashes between the two political factions, resulting in multiple stabbings and other severe injuries.
"On January 6, Trump is calling for big and “wild” protests in DC. His Proud Boys are mobilizing to return to DC to terrorize our community," Shut Down DC tweeted.
"@MayorBowser and @DCPoliceDept have made it clear that they have no interest in keeping us safe. WE KEEP US SAFE," the tweet continues.
Another tweet calls on Shut Down DC's supporters to put Harry's Restaurant in DC out of business before January 6. The restaurant is a hub for conservatives in the city and is sometimes patroned by the Proud Boys.
"This means we need to put Harry’s bar, the Proud Boys’ DC headquarters , OUT OF BUSINESS before January 6," the tweet reads.
Other DC-based leftwing activist accounts have tweeted in reference to January 6.
The President mentioned the January 6 protest date in a tweet, Saturday, saying, "Statistically impossible to have lost the 2020 Election. Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!"
DC has become an actual battleground amid the election and its aftermath. Scenes of violence and flashes of melees in the major downtown areas have kept metro police very active in attempting to keep the peace.
