BLM activists are still "demanding justice" for alleged hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett, now claiming that his grand jury indictment on six charges of filing false reports is proof of racism in the legal system.
In a Sept. 9 open letter published by TheGrio—a division of MSNBC—Women’s March founder Linda Sarsour, Marxist icon Angela Davis, Black Lives Matter Los Angeles co-founder Melina Abdullah, actor Danny Glover, among others, called upon the public to "stand in solidarity" with the former Empire star.
The authors described the current climate of civil unrest and the defund law enforcement movement plaguing Chicago as "police and prosecutors continue to expend precious public resources to cover up a hate crime and renew their fabricated case against Jussie Smollett."
"Jussie faces false charges of felony disorderly conduct and is still being forced to fight back against a relentless and vicious smear campaign initiated by the Chicago Police Department and uncritically disseminated by the media," the leftist coalition alleged, adding that they "believe Jussie, not the CPD."
The article then cited the contentious Jan. 29 incident when Jussie was allegedly assaulted by two masked men who noosed him, shouted homophobic epithets, and yelled: “This [is] MAGA country n—!”
But Smollett never mentioned the Make America Great Again comment to police 40 minutes after the altercation, even though he told Good Morning America that the remark was made before he was punched in the face. It's also far fetched that Chicago is Trumpland, given that the blue city is run by Democratic Mayor Lori Lightfoot, the first LGBTQ and first black female to hold office in her position.
He also told GMA that he spotted which direction his attackers fled, but he previously told authorities that he didn’t.
"In face of felony charges that he staged the attack, Jussie has never wavered in his description of what occurred," the leftist alliance asserted. "The CPD never had the evidence to prove that Jussie falsified his account, leading them to manufacture dubious and unsupported claims and motives."
The CPD investigated but "refused to make public any of their findings that corroborated Jussie’s account of the attack," the ban of left-wingers continued. "[Chicago police] then concocted a media narrative to spread deception."
"A neighbor saw a White man with a rope hanging from his pocket waiting outside Jussie’s apartment," they sourced a TMZ article. However, the alleged assaulters turned out to be two Nigerian brothers and aspiring actors who were associates of Smollett allegedly paid to stage his racist fantasy. Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo will now testify against their ringleader, Page Six reported in June.
The alliance of activists then attempted to justify Smollett's affiliations with "Abel," a bodybuilder previously employed as a personal trainer by the TV personality.
But Smollett and "Abel" were accused of engaging in a sexual relationship. A well-known Chicago bathhouse was reportedly frequented by the alleged partners in crime where numerous "affluent black gay men hang out," an insider disclosed to the New York Post in April of this year. Records of the duo's visits could be subpoenaed in Smollett’s upcoming trial.
"Outrageously, police concealed these eyewitness statements that are in the police reports," the piece went on.
"We believe this case is being used to distract us from the countless acts of racial injustice perpetrated by police against Black people and LBGTQ people and particularly in the wake of the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Jacob Blake and many others," the far-left writers concluded. "Let us vindicate Jussie Smollett and all those subjected to state-sanctioned violence and repression."
The scandal-scarred celebrity was indicted for a second time on Feb. 11 after a special prosecutor assigned to reinvestigate the case decided it was “in the interest of justice” to level the renewed charges against him.
Smollett has since vowed to “fight or die” his way out of his legal woes, doubling down after his release on a $20,000 bond. “I don’t claim to be innocent. I am innocent,” the 38-year-old actor stated on camera to TMZ.
If convicted, Smollett faces up to three years behind bars, a fine up to $25,000, and community service.
