The text, Wilson-Raybould says, "reflects notion that Indigenous peoples are lazy and only want money."

Minister of Indigenous Relations Carolyn Bennett apologized after sending former Liberal justice minister Jody Wilson Raybould a text asking her if her tweet was motivated by the pension received by members of the House of Commons who serve for six years or more.

The text, which simply read "Pension?" was replying to a tweet by Jody Wilson-Raybould that called on Trudeau to take real action on Indigenous issues, rather than "jockeying for an election."

Wilson-Raybould, who has served for five years, is just months shy of her pension, which could be put in jeopardy by another election, as the former Liberal holds only a slight lead in her riding of Vancouver-Granville.

Wilson-Raybould would go on to post the text from Bennett, calling the tweet "racist and misogynist."

The text, she says, "reflects notion that Indigenous peoples are lazy and only want money."

"[The text] shows disregard, disdain, and disrespect for Indigenous peoples, as in our history."

Bennett would go on to apologize in a tweet of her own, saying: "Earlier I offered my apologies directly to the MP for Vancouver Granville. I let interpersonal dynamics get the better of me and sent an insensitive and inappropriate comment, which I deeply regret and shouldn't have done."
