A new poll published on Friday has revealed that a majority of Americans do not approve of teaching children in elementary school about gender identity and sexual orientation.

The poll, conducted by YouGov for the Washington Examiner, asked 1,000 people between August 12 and 15, "do you support or oppose public school teachers providing classroom instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity to children?"

The poll offered a number of age groups, with a majority of respondents saying that children in grades five and lower should not be taught about these subjects.

A total of 67 percent of respondents disagreed with teaching the subjects from kindergarten through third grade, with 53 percent of them strongly opposing.

59 percent said children in fourth and fifth grade should not be taught the subject matter as well, with 44 percent strongly opposing.

Americans were more split in older grades, with 48 percent saying it shouldn’t be taught in sixth through eighth grade, while 40 percent said it should. In high school, a slight majority said that it should be taught, with 51 percent responding as such.

The results of this question comes months after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Parental Rights in Education bill, which banned these teachings in kindergarten through third grade.

The law received backlash from LGBTQ organizations and Democrats, who dubbed the bill the "Don’t Say Gay" bill.
