Oscar Robledo, the 51-year-old man accused of gunning down a Texas police officer in cold blood on Jan 23, 2022, had been running from authorities for some 25 years now. He also has a warrant for his arrest for murder in El Salvador.
Robledo was arrested on Saturday in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico – just across the border from Del Rio Texas – for the murder of Harris County's Officer Charles Galloway by allegedly shooting him through the windshield of his squad car after what was expected to be a routine traffic stop.
According to the New York Post, "Rosales was not a US citizen and had not been in the country legally." They go on to report that "the Honduran, Guatemalan and El Salvadorian governments had been notified of his capture."
Rosales's court appearance is sentenced for Friday morning. He is being held without bond. The case is considered a capital case under Texas law, and Ogg said that the prosecution plans to seek the death penalty.
Rosales's first arrest in Texas was apparently for aggravated assault with a knife. It happened all the way back in the year 1995. At the time, he entered into a plea bargain and got probation. He immediately disappeared.
"He absconded and literally evaded detection and capture by law enforcement on that open warrant for 25 years," mentioned the Harris County District Attorney, Kim Ogg.
