One man is dead after a police shooting in an apartment building at around 4 am in Toronto.

Paramedics say they were called to community housing near Dundas Street East. The Special Investigations Unit would go on to reveal that a man had been shot by police.

Police told CP24 that they were informed while searching for a missing person that a resident of the building may have a gun. They then had a brief interaction with a man who was shot and died later on.

Interim Toronto police Chief James Ramer told media that officers are conducting a homicide investigation as a result of a missing person report from earlier in the day.

"We were here and there was an interaction and as a result the SIU has invoked their mandate," said Ramer.
