A 23-year-old man who enjoys a veneer of the finer things in life will be scheduled to appear in court after stealing his own gold coloured truck in an attempt to get an insurance settlement, according to CTV News.

Scott William Dombowsky-Oneski from Rocky View, Alberta, has been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000, one count of break and enter and one count of public mischief.

The custom-designed gold truck was reported stolen after an unknown suspect broke into a fenced compound and loaded the gold Dodge Ram onto a flatbed truck before towing it off the lot using a separate truck, on the night of Feb. 1.

The compound was owned by DiVita Auto Design at 5306 Third Street. S.E.

Calgary police launched a request for any public information about the truck during their investigation, which led to them being tipped off about a scheme to defraud an insurance company. The gold truck was discovered a month later on February 27.  It was found in the McLean Creek area and was damaged severely.

The investigation concluded that the owner of the gold truck was in significant financial debt to the auto repair shop where it was being stored and that was the motive behind the theft. It was an attempt to collect an insurance payment and give the money to the auto repair shop.

The Calgary police concluded that the auto repair shop had no involvement in the theft.

Scott William Dombowsky-Oneski is expected in court on June 26.
