Allen Fire Department chief Jonathan Boyd told reporters that four of the injured victims are stable and three are in critical condition. Seven died at the scene, and two later succumbed to injuries.
Police chief Brian Harvey said at a press conference Saturday night that an officer was nearby at 3:36 pm on an unrelated call nearby when gunshots rang out at the shopping center.
According to law enforcement, the officer "engaged the suspect and neutralized the threat."
Dashcam footage captured when the alleged gunman exited his car and opened fire. In the clip, a gray vehicle can be seen pulling up near an entrance to the Allen Premium Outlets and park. A person, dressed in all black, steps out from the driver’s side with a gun and opened fire at people outside the shopping center from behind the car door.
The driver, who sped away in reverse from the shooter’s car captured the footage. As the vehicle fled, the shooter can be seen walking towards the mall firing his weapon.
Other footage from local outlets showed victims’ bodies lying under white sheets in the area near an H&M store. Other videos show customers running for cover.
The gunman has not yet been identified.
A Medical City Healthcare spokesperson told FOX 4 Dallas that their facilities treated eight victims between the ages of 5 and 61.
The ATF Dallas Field Division and FBI officials were on site to assist local authorities.
Operations Administrator Joshua W. Barnwell told the outlet that he heard at least 30 gunshots and saw approximately 60 rounds of ammunition on the ground.
Republican Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement, "Our hearts are with the people of Allen, Texas tonight during this unspeakable tragedy. I have been in contact with Mayor Fulk and DPS Director McCraw as well as other state and local leaders and offered the full support of the State of Texas to local officials to ensure all needed assistance and resources are swiftly deployed, including DPS officers, Texas Rangers, and investigative resources."
Correction: An earlier version of this story stated that 9 victims were killed, it has since been learned that 8 victims were killed by the gunman, and the gunman was killed by police.
