Maxine Waters, Pramila Jayapal want MTG off Twitter and out of Congress

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) was permanently booted off of Twitter's platform Sunday over alleged "misinformation" regarding COVID-19 vaccines wherein she gave statistics from VAERS, the government's Vaccine Adverse Effects Reporting System.

Following the Republican's permanent ban, Reps. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) pounced on the opportunity to call for Greene's removal from Congress and applauded Big Tech's crackdown on the elected official.

Waters called Greene an "extremist radical" who is "dangerous" and "has no business" in the House.

"Let me just say this — when you talk about Congresswoman Greene, you're talking about the kind of extremist radical that is now in the House of Representatives who is basically, you know, dangerous," Waters said on-air Sunday in an evening segment on MSNBC's PoliticsNation.

"She is dangerous because she doesn't believe in the Constitution herself. She has been threatening, you know, other members of Congress. They have been all over and in the face of AOC out of New York, following her around, trying to intimidate her," the senior California progressive continued to claim, reiterating that Greene is "not only radical" but also "does not have good sense, period."

"She has no business in the House of Representatives. She loves guns," Waters said of the pro-Second Amendment lawmaker. "She wanted to bring her gun into the House of Representatives, and I think if she stays around, she's going to create some really difficult problems for us who are trying to serve in the House."

Jayapal voiced Sunday that Twitter's disciplinary action against Greene is "a little too late" to curb the spread of COVID-19 "disinformation" on social media.

Reacting to the news of Greene's exile while on MSNBC's The Sunday Show, the Progressive Congressional Caucus chair urged social media companies to do "much, much more" to police the sharing of conspiracy theories online.

"It's no secret that our social media companies have been part of their algorithms promoting disinformation," Jayapal said on the left-wing network. "And I think that these steps are important but, frankly, a little too little and a little too late."

Jayapal said the "reality" is that "it's not just" Greene she takes issue with.

She declared that "all over Twitter, social media, Facebook, all of these companies have been using algorithms that are just about clickbait, not about truth."

"And so if we are going to take on the disinformation that’s out there, the Big Lie, and everything that goes along with it, then yes, this is a part of it but it's got to be much, much more," the Washington representative concluded.

"That said, I think it's just as well that we take one voice that is deliberately spreading disinformation out of the mix as much as possible." She added: "That's certainly a good thing."

Greene fired back on pro-free speech alternative GETTR, noting that Waters "can go to the streets and threaten violence on Twitter," recalling when the Democrat told followers to harass Trump supporters in public and "get in their face."

While informing the Georgia lawmaker of the suspension, Twitter cited "repeated violations" of the site's COVID-19 misinformation policy. Greene's personal Twitter account was banned, while her congressional account remains up.
