Update: Sunday night, Trudeau tweeted: "Everyone has the right to assemble peacefully and express themselves freely in Canada - but we cannot and will not tolerate antisemitism, Islamophobia, or hate of any kind. We strongly condemn the despicable rhetoric and violence we saw on display in some protests this weekend."

Conservative leader Erin O'Toole, Toronto Mayor John Tory, and Ontario premier Doug Ford have spoken out in condemnation of the violence that occurred a pro-Palestine, anti-Israel event which took place Saturday evening and resulted in an elderly Jewish man being brutally assaulted.

"Acts of violence and anti-Semitism on the streets of Toronto and elsewhere in Canada are disturbing and unacceptable," O'Toole said in a tweet. "I echo the calls for Canadians to stand together against hate. We hope those who engage in these acts face the full extent of the law."

Toronto mayor John Tory tweeted "Hate, anti-Semitism and violence have no place in our city. Any violence against our city's Jewish community or members of any other community in Toronto is absolutely unacceptable."

"I have been in touch with @TorontoPolice Chief Ramer and have made available to him a video of a particularly disturbing incident which had been sent to me," the mayor continues.

"I have asked @jamesramertps to inform me as to the steps the service will be taking to investigate this and any other documented examples of unacceptable violence and hatred," the tweet thread concludes.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford also weighed in.

"These acts of violence and expression of antisemitism have no place in Ontario. This behaviour is totally reprehensible and should be investigated by the police," the Premier tweeted.

"Discrimination or hatred of any kind against any community in our province should never be tolerated."

Canadian Prime Minister has remained silent on the violent anti-Semitic incident so far. In Montreal, anti-Israel counter-protestors hurled rocks and a pro-Israel gathering.
